While violet light is scattered even more than blue, our eyes are more sensitive to blue and less to violet. Additionally, some violet light is absorbed in the upper atmosphere, making blue the dominant color we see. During sunrise and sunset, the sky can appear red or orange because the sunlight travels through more atmosphere. This scatters the blue light out of view, leaving the longer wavelengths like red and orange.
