Unlike water, which flows and changes shape, or air, which moves unseen, earth is firm and unyielding. It holds the weight of forests, cities, and oceans, yet it is not lifeless. It breathes through the plants that grow from it, feeds the crops that sustain life, and holds the history of everything that has come before. It is rough and smooth, hard and soft, cracked and whole. It crumbles beneath the touch yet forms towering cliffs that stand for ages.
